Job Role and Responsibilities • Three Responsibilities: (1) time, (2) talent and (3) treasure • Four Roles: (1) policy development, (2) monitor performance, (3) * build external relationships and advocacy, (4) fiduciary and duty of care
Human Capital Criteria • History: Board members selected on the basis of: (1) social statue, (2) moral integrity, (3) refined lineage (wealth), and (4) Affiliations • Present-day Effectiveness: Board members selected on the basis of the four forms of Board capital: (1) Intellectual (Generative), (2) Reputational (Legitimacy), (3) Political (Power), and (4) Social (Efficacy)
The Role of Policy Development • Policy Type: Board Effectiveness • Belief: Effectiveness begins with the diversity of KSA’s and personal commitment • Identification of human capital criteria priorities • Development & operation of a process of encouragement • Advocating for the preferred applicant
