ADJECTIVES. -used to describe a noun or pronoun - modify =change slightly. Adjectives usually answer one of these four questions:. Modifying Nouns and Pronouns. When adjectives modify nouns , they usually come directly before the nouns. Occasionally, they may come after.

  3. Modifying Nouns and Pronouns When adjectives modify nouns, they usually come directly before the nouns. Occasionally, they may come after. When adjectives modify pronouns, they usually come after a linking verb. Occasionally, they may come before. BEFORE: She saw a bright, smilingface. AFTER: The room, narrow and dark, frightened us. BEFORE: They are happy and talkative. AFTER: Quiet and sullen, he sat in a corner.

  4. PRACTICE!!Underline the adjective and draw an arrow to the noun or pronoun it modifies. Ducks, geese, and swans are aquatic birds. All waterfowl swim and float. These birds have webbed feet. These colorful birds are often called greenheads. A female duck has dull feathers that blend in with her surroundings.

  5. ARTICLESArticles answer the question: Which one? DEFINITE ARTICLES: THE INDEFINITE ARTICLES: A and AN -refers to a specific person, place, or thing Examples: thecanoe the white swan -point out a type of person, place, or thing, but they do not refer to a specific one Examples: apond (perhaps one of several) an old sweater (any one of many)
