  2. Prevention of HIV/AIDS • ABC approach: Abstain, Be Faithful, and correct and consistent use of Condoms • Prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) • Focus on Blood Safety • Injection Safety • Counseling • Education

  3. Prophylaxis Treatment • The recommended protocol is to treat with antiretroviral drugs ARTs. • They are: Zidovudine, Stavudine, Didanosine, and Lamivudine. • 4 week regimens are usually recommended after post exposure • Occupational exposure is considered a urgent medical concern

  4. Blood Testing • CD4 counts to check the T-Cells • HIV viral Load • CMP; comprehensive chemistry panel • LIPID; Cholesterol testing • CBC; complete blood cell count • STD’s;, Toxoplasmosis, CMV, RPR • Hepatitis C antibody, HIV ½ antibody • Hepatitis A total antibody levels

  5. Programs for HIV/AIDS Patients • PEPFAR (Presidents Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief) • UNAIDS (United Nations program on AIDS) • AIDS Preventive
