  1. Disney & its Representations By Gabby,Laurena & Jordann

  2. Representations of women Disney has always represented women in a traditional way, as they are always portrayed as being less worthy and the men are always perceived as the heroes of the story. • The story line usually represents, the young women as pretty, virginal, sweet-natured and obedient, who end up meeting their prince charming. • However the older women are always been represented as witches or the villain of the story. One example would be : http://newint.org/easier-english/Disney/diswomen.html

  3. Representations of men Men in Disney films are represented as strong, masculine and confident characters. They are always represented as high class characters who end up falling for women from a low class background. Furthermore they are seen as the hero's of the story who saves the women and brings her into a better life. It is not as if they create these stereotypes but they do reflect and support them as they follow them and make them the norm.

  4. Representation of races  Over the years the main characters that have been in Disney’s productions have been mainly of white race, but as the years progressed they have added more cultural diverse characters. http://thinkprogress.org/alyssa/2012/10/22/1061361/disney-first-latina-princess-sofia/?mobile=nc Princess and the Frog: Year: 2010 Budget: $105 million Box office: $267,045,765 Tangled: Year:2009 Budget: $260 million Box office: $590,721,936

  5. Adaption Due to the ease of downloading movies and games for free in today’s society Disney has lost a lot of money. This meant that Disney had to change their way of making money. The did this by: • Making sold Cd’s and DVDs of better quality than the free ones. (3D) • Giving live shows and musicals, based on the movies • They also sell their movies to for instance Sky TV, Virgin etc.

  6. Examples The Lion King and Shrek are examples of movies that made a lot of money, when people started downloading them for free Disney started performing musicals. This allowed them to continue making money, even though society had been changing for the worse.
