  1. Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary NATI the domestic-sized solar power managing system 15th May, 2013 Innovation Open House event University of Debrecen

  2. Description of the Idea Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • Main features of the idea • The consumers’ primary source of power is the renewable energy of the PV cells; the secondary source is the utility network • The consumers are supplied by the PV cells during a power cut • The system has a UPS function also for a group of selected consumers (these are the basis consumers) • 100% of the solar power is used by the consumers • It is not necessary to use large battery plants for the normal operation • The NATI system is absolutely automatized 2

  3. Description of the Idea Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • Description of the innovation • The NATI system transforms all the solar power from the PV cells directly to the consumers , so the utility network remains in the background as a secondary source • The solar PV cells never connect to the utility network, only to the comsumers, so the PV cells never give power to the utility network (similarly to an isolated system) • The consumers can operate during the outage of the utility network without using large battery plants. • The PV cells can be used during the outage of the utility network 3

  4. Description of the Idea Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • What it is and what it does (NOT how it works) • The NATI system is an electronic switch between the PVs and the utility network, electronically controlled, does not cause any interruption in the supply of the consumers. The break time is max. a half sinus period. • When there is enough renewable energy, it feeds the consumers directly from solar power • When there is not enough solar power, it feeds the consumers partitionally from solar power and partitionally from the utility network. The less is the solar power, the less is the supply by the PV cells • The dual, simultaneous power supply of the consumers is impossible • There is no energy storing (but it is possible) 4

  5. Potential Market Opportunities Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • Current problems that the application of the technology can address • The biggest problem of the feed-in systems is that the PVs can not work without the undisturbed and trouble free network. • In a feed-in system, the consumer can not use the renewable energy from their own solar PV cells, independently of any decree or accounting system of power supply companies • The biggest problem of the isolated systems is the large battery plants where to reserve the power 5

  6. Potential Market Opportunities Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • Services that can be enabled by the technology • The NATI system can be used anywhere and save money where the on-the-spot consumption of the electricty produced by the PV is ensured – where people live their everyday lives. Therefore it is especially made for multigenerational homes, offices, pubs, shops, workshops, institutions, retirement homes, hospitals, etc. 6

  7. Potential Market Opportunities Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • Advantages, compared to existing products/solutions • The consumers can use solar power independently from the power supplier company and independently of the utility network. (The NATI system gives all the advantages of the isolated system.) • Not necessary to use large battery plants for the normal operation. (The NATI system avoids the disadvantages of the isolated system.) • All the solar power from the PV cells are utilized like in the case of a grid-connected system • In case of overproduction, the superfluous energy heats domestic hot water (DHW) 7

  8. Potential Market Opportunities Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • Market information (size, trends, competitors, etc.) • Our target market is everyone who has power consumption between 2 and 8 kWs, requires the power mainly during daytime and use the power of the PV cells for own consumption and not for sale • The trend in Germany, the world leader PV cell user country is to use the PV cells for own consumption and reduce the selling for the utility network that is nowadays full with weather dependent renewable power • We opened a new way between the grid-connected and isolated systems • Currently the NATI system is only produced by us, uniquely. The closest solution is the NADAP, but that is also a feed-in system. 8

  9. Technology Status Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • Current phase of development • Our development reached the 4.0 version what is marketable • The estimated time for development was one year Further development • We plan to integrate the wind power into the NATI sytem and any other renewable energy besides the solar power. It has no risk as the system operates correctly when based on solar power. 9

  10. Level of IP protection Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • Current level of IP protection (patent application, know/how, etc.) • We protect the software of the control system • We have no patent application but the inaccessible data of the software gives enough protection • We introduced our system and disclosed to the public on the RENEXPO exhibition in Budapest this year 10

  11. Stakeholder Support Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • Company structure and business management • Only Hungarian private people form our company • Among the owners, we can find the expert of electricity, mechanics, sales and experimentist of development • The company works on innovations that are produced by noone else or another way Commercialization ability of the technology • The commercialization ability of the NATI system depends on the possible local applications, that depends on the time of utilization per year. 11

  12. Challenges and Next Steps Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • Potential challenges (technology, IP protection, competitors, stakeholders, business aspects, global economic aspects, etc.) • Our potential challange is to introduce the NATI system on exhibitions and other solar courses for the designers and constraction technicians • We plan to call the solar profession’s attention to the NATI system • The NATI system can reduce the power consumption from the utility network with renewable energy locally 12

  13. Challenges and Next Steps Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • What service would you use the 5000 euro innovation voucher for? (obligatory question) • Product testing. • Testing on quality controll. • Development of business plan. • Analysis of technology transfer potential • Develop to attache other renewable energy sources to the NATI system. • Study visit • Building business partnerships 13

  14. Summary Introduction Description of the Idea Potential Market Opportunities Technology Status Level of IP Protection Stakeholder Support Challenges and Next Steps Summary • The NATI system opens a new way for using renewable energy sources for domestic-sized consumers. • The results of the PV cells are independent from the utility networks. • The solar power will be utilized totally in every time without the attendance of the network. • The consumers will be supplied without any interruption and disturbance in every time. • Independency from electric suppliers. • Since the consuption is reduced, the profitability of the system will NEVER change. • No dependence of power supplying rules. 14
