  6. Implications for practice Although pentoxifylline may confer positive effects on kidney function, albuminuria and proteinuria levels, with a low adverse event profile. However the poor methodological quality of included studies, the small number of patients enrolled, and likelihood of publication bias, provided insufficient evidence to support the routine use of pentoxifylline for treating patients with type 1 and type 2 DKD.
