  4. California’s Three-Tier Higher Education Framework • The University of California (UC) System • The California State (CalState) University System (CSU) • The California Community College System (CCCS)

  5. The University of California (UC) System • Ten campuses -- 191,000 students; 121,000 faculty and staff. • Research oriented • Full academic program to Ph.D. level.

  6. The California State (CalState) University System (CSU) • Twenty-three campuses -- 433,000 students; 44,000 faculty and staff. • Teaching oriented. Recent accreditation efforts shift towards more research. • Full academic program to Master’s level. Some Ph.D. programs in coordination with UC

  7. The California Community College System (CCCS) • One hundred ten campuses -- 2,900,000 students; 89,500 faculty and staff. • First two years of university to prepare for transfer to universities. • Associate degree. • Many community oriented non-degree courses.
