Dave Thomas spent many years working in restaurants, and had a great career with Kentucky Fried Chicken, when he decided to leave his safe job to try and start his own restaurant. After Bill Gates received an almost perfect score on the SAT, he went on to study at Harvard, but instead of choosing to take a comfortable job in the growing field of technology, he spent all of his time and money creating a new type of software company. • Entrepreneurs need extra years of college to start a business. • Bill Gates started a company called Microsoft. • Entrepreneurs often have to take risks when they start a business. • There are many different types of businesses.

When goods were rationed during World War II, Mom might have to give up iced tea for the month in order to have enough of the rationed sugar to make Junior a birthday cake. A woman who decided to join the Navy as a clerk would have to postpone her dream of going to college until the war was over. • Goods had to be rationed during World War II • Choices include vacations, rationing, and college. • You shouldn’t be afraid to try something new. • Sometimes making a choice means giving something up.
