Making the Global Connection • In a more interconnected world it makes sense to make education a global experience. • Not an easy task • Help is available
One World Classroom Objective • Using modern technology, the student will demonstrate an understanding of home, school, and other settings across the world. Activities • Students will use resources such as JUJU as a safe source for foreign pen pals. • Students will create neighborhood maps to be shared with foreign peers via Skype. • Students will create portraits of important members of their community. Portraits will be scanned and placed into an online art gallery, such as Artsonia, for foreign partnering classes to view and comment on. • Students will create dioramas, posters, booklets, or other project choices to demonstrate their understanding of their current environment. Final projects will be shared via Skype.
The Global Classroom Learning Objectives Objective • The student will demonstrate an understanding of how individuals, families, and communities live and work together here and across the world. Activities • Students will utilize conversational prompts to encourage conversation with regards to individual interest and family structure using sites such as Edmodo. • Students will create virtual story boards in regards to their everyday life; i.e. typical food, clothing, styles of clothing, and ways families earn a living. • Students will create flash cards that explain community life, including the structure of schools; typical jobs; the interdependence of family, school, and the community; and the common methods of transportation and communication. • Teachers will utilize the Global Classroom Blog to share ideas, pictures, and global successes within the classroom.
Chinese Flagship Learning Objectives Objectives: • The student will demonstrate a beginner’s level and age appropriate understanding of the Chinese language in a K-12 environment using interactive multi-media activities to enhance other global classroom interaction with Chinese students. Activities: • Students will use on-line learning systems interacting with Ohio State University facilitators to be introduced to the basic principles of the Chinese language for 1st year learners. • Students will interact with on-line facilitators and fellow students in a distance-learning environment to reinforce curricular objectives through demonstration of competencies. • Students will participate in culturally significant activities such as conversational role-play and art exchanges to demonstrate an understanding of the cultural context of the Chinese language.
