  7. Parent Information • Hours – Students allowed in the building at 7:45am; The day ends at 3:15pm • Students are considered tardy after 8:10am • Carpooling – Do not park in the fire lane/carpool line; Students are to be let out of the car in front of the building ONLY

  8. Parent Information • Grades – PAM; Teacher have the liberty of 10 days to enter grades following an assignment • Tutoring – All teachers offer at least one day a week of tutoring • Behavior – Disruptive, disorderly, disobedient behavior is NOT ALLOWED

  9. T-Dap • Vaccination required for 6th grade • Must be compliant by 30 days from the start of school or risk suspension • www.immunizenc.org

  14. Summer Reading Requirements: Book with a written assignment: Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick Further recommendations for advanced readers Directions will be mailed home and will be available on our website. Due: September 2013 (exact date will be on mailing)

  16. Block Schedule Students take 4 core classes per year Language Arts, Math, Science & Social Studies Placement in Language Arts and Math is determined by EOG scores. Options for placement are: Honors & Standard Plus Language Arts classes are heterogeneously mixed. Math classes are based on its varying curriculum

  17. Serving Our Gifted Students We are a school that practices inclusion Gifted students are cluster grouped within the core classrooms Academic Facilitator works with the core teachers to push, stretch and extend the curriculum for gifted students

  18. Serving our EC Students We use a co-teaching model to serve some of our students in the Exceptional Children’s program We have 2 self-contained Autistic and SAC Classes

  19. Students take 4 semesters of electives per year. They rotate on an A-Day / B-Day basis. Band (year long) Orchestra (year long) Exploring Foreign Language Computer Skills & Application Cultural Arts (art, drama, dance) Speech Journalism Elective Options for 6th Graders: * PE / Health is required.

  20. A Day in the Life of a 6th Grader Homeroom (School opens at 7:45am) 1st block: Language Arts 2nd block: Math 3rd block: Lunch, Social Studies (A Day), Science (B Day) 4th block: PE (A Day), Cultural Arts (B Day) Dismissal begins at 3:15pm

  22. Other ways we communicate… Student Planner Email, Staff Wikis, Connect Ed Quarterly Progress Reports, Parent Assistant Module (PAM) Specifically designated Parent Conference Day every Wednesday. Call the 6th grade counselor for an appointment.
