  2. Today you will receive: • Student Teaching Contract • Sign all copies, keep white • CBC chart and forms attached if needed (Criminal Background Check) • Semester calendar for ED420 and Ed420*

  3. Husky Net…..Check Regularly for updates, etc A few of you have received letters that state your placement is pending or your CT is TBD .

  4. Contact OCE… • oce@stcloudstate.edu • (320) 308-4783 • If you do not get a contract today, we will contact you as soon as we know the details of your placement! You will receive your contract via email and can accept it by email reply

  5. ORIENTATION is Mandatory Fri., January 5, 2018 Atwood 8:30 AM-3:30 PM

  6. Professional Development Conference • Attend only in your final semester of student teaching • Thursday, March 1, Atwood • Get this on your calendar! Let your CT know! • F18: Thursday, March 1, 2018 (for Elementary Ed and CFS)

  7. CBC (Criminal Background Check): Required for MANY Districts Read your attached District Requirements and FOLLOW

  8. CBC… • Required documents are attached to your data sheet • YOU will need to do at least one of the following: • Fill out and return forms to the District…read directions! • Some districts will accept a CBC performed by another district, if it’s less than 1 year old. Contact both districts to see if this is possible.

  9. Godirectly to the district website if it’s listed on the handout. • Download the CBC document(s), complete the document(s) and submit it/them along with your check to the District Office, or as directed on the website.

  10. If personal email addresses or phone numbers are provided, contact them if you have questions, to get forms, etc. • You must carefully read the information provided by your assigned district, as procedures and requirements vary among districts. Do you have two districts?

  11. WARNING: • Your placement will be cancelled by the school district if this CBC information isn’t provided in a timely mannerand you will be student teaching next semester.

  12. Complete this CBC process TODAY….or TOMORROW DO NOT WAIT

  13. First Aid & CPR • Required for CFS • Infant & Child (through age 8) • Required for HPE • Child & Adult Bring copies of signed card copies to OCE **Required BEFORE you can ST!

  14. Liability Insurance • REQUIRED • $25,000 Liability coverage • Ed MN (Education MN) Student Membership ($25 Academic Yr) • Sign up ONLINE! Liability Insurance: Education MN www.educationminnesota.org; “Student Members” “Join or Renew” (need credit card)

  15. Liability Insurance • Email Confirmation PRIOR TO Student Teaching: • COPY TO OCE! • OR copy of check to Education MN • Effective for School Year • Sept 1 - Aug 31 • Spring/Fall students only: Purchase again for following Fall

  16. ST Handbook • Download a copy at http://www.stcloudstate.edu/oce/teaching.aspx • You are responsible for the information in the handbook for your program.

  17. Register for Student Teaching! OCE sent you a letter; SPED sent you a letter… Please Register OR placement may be CANCELLED

  18. Spring 2018 Semester for SPED and Sec. K-12, 5012: First Day of Student Teaching : January 8. Communicate this to your cooperating teacher(s)! • SPED: 2 placements 6 + 10 wks Jan. 8-Feb. 12 then Feb. 15 through May 2 • K-12 and 5-12: 1-2 placements; 8 weeks each for two or 16 weeks for one Jan. 8 to Mar. 2 then March 5 through May 2 or Jan. 8 through May 2

  19. CFS grades K-3 • In school placement on T/TH all day during methods courses for first 8 weeks • ST in school all day, everyday from March 12 through May 2, 2018 • See calendar attached to contract

  20. Elem Ed • SEE calendar attached to contract • (K-6) In field placement on Mondays during Methods • Block 3: Full time ST from March 26 through May 4, 2018 • Block 4: Full time ST from Sept. 24 through Dec. 19, 2018

  21. Mandatory ORIENTATION Fri. January 5 Professional Development Conference Thursday Mar. 1 or Thursday Nov. 1 ST Dates: On your contract. KEEP your contract where you can find it! ST Dates

Include in first communication with Cooperating Teacher (write to all CT’s immediately, if you have more than 1 CT): • Include short introduction • Show appreciation for the opportunity • Include questions you have • Share dates you will start and finish (determined by program) • Indicate eagerness to begin

  24. CONTINUED: Include in first communication with Cooperating Teacher : • Inquire as to what you could do to prepare for the start of student teaching (articles or books you could read, topics or units that will be taught in spring that you could research or begin to plan) • Attach resume

  25. CONTINUED: Include in first communication with Cooperating Teacher : • As this is the first time your cooperating teacher will receive communication from you, make sure that it is PROFESSIONAL, RESPECTFUL and WELL-WRITTEN.

  26. University Supervisor • You will find out your University Supervisor at Orientation • Most supervisors will be at Orientation to meet with you

  27. Placement Information • Once you begin full time ST, follow the school calendar (Not SCSU); Follow CT schedule!!!! • Schools have the right to cancel your placement/remove ST: • Lack of initiative • Poor performance/attendance • Unprofessional behavior • We are GUESTS in the school!

  28. ABSENCES Contact your CT & your supervisor as soon as you know; days after 2-3 missed need to be made up

  29. Outside Job ? • This is discouraged due to the many requirements of student teaching • An outside job can NOT interfere with your student teaching schedule or requirements! Coaching is considered a job…

  30. People who represent SCSU • Have you met with OCE staff to discuss practice and event/game schedules and accommodations needed? • Competitions or performances can be accommodated, but practices will not

  31. Need to Withdraw from Student Teaching? • Let OCE know ASAP • Fill out cancellation form • OCE will move you ahead to the next semester OR to whenever you have indicated on the form

  32. Eligibility Issues? • See Jolene in OCE

  33. During ST: edTPA • You will complete an edTPA • Education Teacher Performance Assessment (developed by Stanford Univ.) • Required by MN Board of Teaching • (Unless you hold a MN tch license already) • As in other professions … this performance assessment is part of the program completion process. • Additional course fee: $270 attached to your course registration • Upload edTPA in Tk20 & submit to Pearson for scoring (using assigned voucher)
