  6. Promotions Promotions panels carry out job grading to determine the grade of a job being undertaken as described in the promotion case. Panel will reach a consensus decision on promotion.   10. Appeals • Staff can appeal against the decision not to promote them. • Appeals normally focus on one of two reasons: • Something important was missed from the original submission. • The process was not followed correctly. © The University of Sheffield / Department of Human Resources

  12. Appeal processs Individual decides to appeal against decision. Appeal panel meets with Chair of original panel, HoD and candidate to clarify if the original panel missed anything and to check the process followed. © The University of Sheffield / Department of Human Resources

  13. Reaching a decision on appeals Chair does not have casting vote Normally consensus decision, but majority required in event of vote Outcome can be ‘No decision’ © The University of Sheffield / Department of Human Resources
