7. 1   GEOSAF 2 aims at tackling ‘Integrated Safety Case’ • Define • the basic concepts needed to build a safety case that embraces pre-closure and post-closure safety • Deliver • an IAEA document which aims at helping • operators to build the integrated safety case, • Regulatory bodies and technical support organizations to assess the adequacy of the integrated safety case • Grasping • different countries’ point of view, from operators, regulators, etc. • Work together on • the use of the initial state • operational safety and its integration into the safety case

14.  3 The deliverables of GEOSAF 2  • The draft report  IAEA TECDOC • Takes into account the remarks and improvements unveiled at the last plenary meeting • Proposes a simpler terminology and focusses on how it can be used • the main aspects will be highlighted this afternoon

16.   CONCLUSION : where GEOSAF 2 isgoing…     • The main concepts brought by GEOSAF 2 • are already embedded in some operators’ safety cases • SKB uses the term “initial state”, e.g. • are already used in regulatory reviews • IRSN… • It’s all about trust! • an integrated safety case brings more trust in the sustainability of a GD until its final closure • and don’t forget that operational safety is not that easy anyway… 
