JESUS SPOKE ABOUT DISCERNMENT “The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.  He replied, "When evening comes, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,' and in the morning, 'Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah." Jesus then left them and went away.” Mathew 16:1-4

  19. UNDERSTAND THE PROPHETIC REVELATION OF THE SCRIPTURES THE BIBLE IS A PROPHETIC BOOK AND AS SUCH IT CONTAINS PROPHETIC SIGNS AND PROPHETIC EVENTS.

  20. TESTING GOD • THE PHARISEES WERE TESTING JESUS. • THEY SHOULD HAVE ALREADY KNOWN BY THE SCRIPTURES THAT HE WAS THE MESSIAH. • BUT THEY STILL WANTED TO SEE A BIG MIRACULOUS SIGN. • THE ONLY SIGN JESUS WOULD GIVE WAS THE SIGN OF JONAH

  21. RECOGNIZE THE SIGNS • YOU ARE IN ERROR BECAUSE YOU DON’T KNOW THE SCRIPTURES NOR THE POWER OF GOD. • THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO AT LEAST RECOGNIZE THE SIGN OF JONAH.

  22. JESUS’ RESPONSE TO THE PHARISEES • There will not be miraculous signs, but the Pharisees should compare the Scriptures with the events in Jerusalem. • They should look into the prophetic revelation of the Scriptures.

WHAT WAS THE SIGN OF JONAH? • Luke 11:29-32 • Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites • Jesus was a sign to His own generation • The Ninevites listened to Jonah’s preaching • Israel should listen to Jesus because He was greater than Jonah • Israel should listen to Jesus. His words were enough. They didn’t need any miraculous sign.

  24. WHAT WAS THE SIGN OF JONAH? • Matthew 12:38-40 • As Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

IN ANOTHER WORDS • GO READ AND STUDY THE SCRIPTURES TO UNDERSTAND THE PROPHETIC REVELATION OF GOD AND YOU WILL GET THE DISCERNMENT FOR THESE TIMES. • ISRAEL SHOULD NOT BE IGNORANT ABOUT THOSE IMPORTANT EVENTS. • IF THEY HAD READ JONAH AND COMPARED IT WITH THE EVENTS OF JESUS’ LIFE THEY WOULD HAVE UNDERSTOOD THE SIGN GIVEN TO THEM.

WRONG DECISIONS • BECAUSE THE PHARISEES DIDN’T DISCERN THE SIGNS OF THEIR TIME, THEY MADE MANY WRONG DECISIONS THAT AFFECT THE NATION OF ISRAEL ‘TIL THIS DAY: • Didn’t believe in Christ • Crucified Him • Lied about His resurrection • Persecuted & killed His followers • Persecuted the early church • Still don’t accept Christ is the Messiah

  27. LESSON FOR THE CHURCH The church is suppose to walk in the discernment of the times given by the Holy Spirit through the understanding of the prophetic Word of God And not in the theology of signs or in the traditional religiosity of the Pharisees

  28. IN ANOTHER WORDS • GO READ AND STUDY THE SCRIPTURES TO UNDERSTAND THE PROPHETIC REVELATION OF GOD AND YOU WILL GET THE DISCERNMENT FOR THESE TIMES. • THE CHURCH SHOULD NOT BE IGNORANT ABOUT THESE IMPORTANT EVENTS.

  29. DISCERN THE TIMES JESUS WANTS HIS CHURCH TO DISCERN THE TIMES. THE CHURCH HAS INVESTED TIME TO INTERPRET THE SCRIPTURES, BUT HAS NOT INVESTED TIME TO DISCERN THE TIMES.

  30. DISCERN THE TIMES WHAT ARE THE TIMES TELLING US? HOW THE THINGS HAPPPENING IN OUR TIMES ARE RELATED TO THE SCRIPTURES?

DISCERN THE TIMES THE PROPHET DANIEL SAID THAT IN THE END OF TIMES THERE WOULD BE A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROPHETIC REVELATION OF THE SCRIPTURES "But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of time; many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase.“ Daniel 1:4

  32. WATCH THE WIND WHAT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT DOING? HOW AND WHERE IS HE BLOWING? WHERE IS HE MOVING? WHAT ARE THE PROPHETS OF GOD SAYING? WHAT ARE THE PASTORS PREACHING ABOUT?

  33. PROPHETIC WATCH Surely the Lord GOD does nothing         Unless He reveals His secret counsel         To His servants the prophets. Amos 3:7

  35. Signs of the End of the Age   ”Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. "Do you see all these things?" he asked. "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down."

  36. What will be the signs? As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"

  37. False christs Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ, and will deceive many.

  38. Wars & rumors of wars among the nations You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

  39. Famines and earthquakes There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

  40. The beginning of birth pains. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

  44. World Political Scenario The wars of preparation of the world scenario for the appearance of the antichrist.

  50. DISCERNMENT IS KEY • JESUS’ DISCIPLES DISCERNED THAT JESUS WAS THE MESSIAH • THAT THE TIMES HAD BEEN FULFILLED FOR HIM TO COME • THEY UNDERSTOOD THE SCRIPTURES PROPHETICALLY • AND THEY LEFT EVERYTHING BEHIND TO FOLLOW JESUS • THEY UNDERSTOOD THE KINGDOM OF GOD HAD ALREADY ARRIVED
