Heart of a samurai R&E By Callum C
Response This book is about a Japanese boy who gets to go to America. He gets into a ship wreck and gets stranded on a island and all they could eat was raw bird. They get picked up by an American whaling boat. The people on the whaling boat did not speak Japanese so they could not understand them. When they got on the ship they had food and water they had never had bread before and they loved it. They learned a little English so they could speak with them a little. The whalers call him John Mung. The whalers go to Hawaii and drop them off except for him. He will come to America and live with the captain of the ship. He goes to school with the american kids. He makes friends and enemy's and finds himself in a dangerous horse race. He is longing to go back to japan so he gets a job and uses the money to buy a boat. He picks up his friends and try's to go home. But the water is very choppy and the small boat might not be able to go through it and if they do what will his government say?
