What’s OPAC? • Online Public Access Catalog • It’s a way of finding books and other resources in the library.
Did you know? The OPAC can be accessed from any computer with internet access.
Go to the JCPS homepage. http://www.jefferson.kyschools.us
Roll the mouse over elementary. Move to the right menu and click on Elementary School Library Catalogs.
Searching the OPAC Let’s do a simple search. Click simple.
Type cat in the search box and click on the key icon that says “All Words.”
Type cats and click on the key icon.How many records are there for cats?
Type “The Bad Case of Stripes” in the search box and click on the key icon.
Who is the author of the book? • What is the call number? • Is the book available for check out? What if there are several pages of records?
Now you can practice what you have learned. Take the library handout with you to a computer and see if you can answer the questions by using your OPAC skills.
