  2. R e p e n t a n c e Repentance Is Essential ToSalvation Luke 13:3 “…unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” Luke 24:47 “and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

One of the hardest commands to obey Repent For The Non-Christian Baptism is easy once he repents Acts 2:38 For The Christian Confession is easy once he repents Acts 8:22 It is Hard Because: • It is the turning point – mind making decision • It involves surrendering the will over to the Will of God • The will is actually crushed and replaced withhumility

  4. What Repentance Is Not? • Confession of sin- (possible without repent) • Regret and sorrow - (Matt. 27:2-4) – tears cannot be a substitute for genuine repentance • Forced change of conduct – (Gen. 19:26) • Outward Change or Reform – (Joel 2:12-13) • A Promise to do better – (Jeremiah 15:6)

  5. The Elements of Repentance 1. Recognition of Sin • David did not make excuses or try to lay the blame on others. (2 Sam 12:13) Psalm 51:3 - “For I acknowledge my transgressions,    And my sin is always before me.”

Godly Sorrow • Repentance is preceded by godly sorrow. 2 Corinthians 7:10 – “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.” • Godly sorrow involves a complete focus on God. • Psalms 51:1-4 – David sorrowed with a godly sorrow over his sin

  7. The Elements of Repentance • Satan's substitute for this is worldly sorrow. • In worldly sorrow we are sad about the consequences or being caught. • Many have this kind of sorrow over their sin.
