  2. The art of a folk , knowledge system, experiences, and expressions that people consider for survival and environmental management is very important from social, cultural and ecological contexts. Some of the knowledge system survive for many years without any change. When we examine each and every trait of a knowledge system, a clear function is exposed behind its existence. Ethics behind the co living of folk communities is also considered to be an Intangible cultural heritage conserved by folk communities.

  4. PERFORMING RIGHTS Art Form Theyyam Community : Malayan, Vannan, Pulayan, Mavilan, Koppalan, Velan

  5. Teyyam • Teyyam is a ritual performance of north Kerala. The word meaning of Teyyam is god. It performs in the houses, village shrines and open places, sacred groves etc once a year, once in two years, Once in three years, once in several years etc. • The purpose of the performance is for the welfare of the community, good harvest, begetting children, warding off evil spirits etc. • The performers belong to lower community.

  30. Folkland initiatives for conserving ethical knowledge • Educating the artistes • Documenting the knowledge lies in manuscripts and preserve it for posterity. • Settling the disputes as mediators. • Arrange more performance spaces outside the village precincts.

  31. Educating the artistes • Folkland has conducted several educational programs for the traditional artistes .

  32. Documenting the knowledge lies in manuscripts and preserve it for posterity. • Knowledge, wisdom, ethical issues, performers rights etc are lying in the palm leaf manuscripts. All these manuscripts are written 600-800 years back. Those manuscripts are deciphered and made available to • The community members

  34. Settling the disputes as mediators. • Disputes between the artistes, communities are settled with the interference of experts and elders in the community.

  35. Arrange more performance spaces outside the village precincts. • Folkland has undertaken several projects out side the state and abroad to give more performances to the traditional artistes. It brings status as well as monetary benefits to the artistes.
