Need for Information Exchange Standards • Industry faces heterogeneous CAD/CAE environment -- in constant state of flux • Process plant typical life 25-50 years • CAE/CAD technology cycle 5-10 years • Technical information is reused over the life of the project, process, and plant • Large savings possible when engineering, procurement, construction, and operation can use diverse CAE/CAD and ERP systems • Standards enable these savings
