New ISDN Resource Modules • 3 new modules: Mux+ 10, Mux+ 20 and Mux+ 40 • Mux+ is required for AES encrypted ISDN participants • Unused reserved Mux+ resources can be freed up for other users • Dynamic allocation of Mux resources according to bandwidth requirement – Mux 10 supports 10 sites @ 384 kbps, 20 sites @ 128 kbps • Mux and Mux+ can be combined in a conference - AES uses Mux+ • If AES is disabled, first Mux resources are used, then Mux+

MUX+ Advantages • Higher capacity and encryption: The MUX+ has enhanced functionality compared with the current MUX board • Enhanced trace mechanism – MUX+ logger is used to retrieve diagnostic file when a MUX+ module shows a fault • Flexible ports: Eliminates the traditional limitation of configuring the MUX per rate and decreases resource fragmentation

New IP+ Resource Modules • Release 7.0 includes new IP 12 and IP 24 resource modules, built on the same design of the existing IP 48 module • AES and SIP: • New IP+12 and IP+24 support AES and SIP for the MGC 50/100 • Existing IP12 and IP24 modules do not support AES and SIP. • IP12/24 and IP+ modules can be used in the same conference. IP+ is used for SIP and AES participants. • Capacities on all IP+ modules are halved when AES is enabled

  13. SIP MGC Notes • MGC 50 – MGC 100 Hardware Requirements • the existing IP48+ modules (v 4.23 and higher) • the new IP+12 and IP+24 modules • MGC 25 is already enabled to support SIP • Included in the MGC for No Charge. No license is required.

IP Conferencing Reliability • RTP Monitoring • RTP packets: loss, out of order, fragmented packets • Jitter mechanism: buffer size, late packets, overflow • Info per each media channel (audio in/out, video in/out, content) • DHCP • IP media interface can now obtain its IP information address via DHCP • NAT Traversal • MCU inserts external IP addresses as its media channel addresses • Works by Static Mapping – each internal IP address (IP board) is translated into a specific external address • Link DNS name to the IP interface – especially useful in SIP • Alternate GK • Enables redundancy in case the primary GK fails or wants to share its load with other GKs

  17. SecurityAES • Encryption is used to transit Video/Audio securely over IP/ISDN. The sender encodes it, and unless the recipient has the “key” it can’t be read. • MGC version 7 supports standard based AES in IP and ISDN calls • Requires IP+ module for IP calls and MUX+ for ISDN calls • The MGC25 is already hardware enabled to support AES. • Media (A & V) encryption for H.323 and H.320 endpoints • Only P+C and H.239 standard will be supported • CDR - A new field “Encrypted Yes/ No” in the conference level, and in the participant level will be available • Included in the MGC for No Charge. No license is required.

AESSession Guidelines • Encryption is part of the conference reservation, and can not be changed while the conference is on going • The conference settings apply to all participants, a change can be made at the participants level • A combination of encrypted and non encrypted endpoints are allowed with the exception that in the case of a VSW conference all ISDN participants must be the same type (i.e. encrypted or non-encrypted)

Video QualityH.264 Video • Standards based video compression • Uses half the bit rate while providing high video quality at lower speeds • Supported in video switched, continuous presence and gateway calls • Continuous Presence - supports H.264 for IP and ISDN, and can add participants with other protocols (H.261/H.263) • Requires Video+8

  20. Video Quality 4CIF Video In CP/Tx Conferences • MGC Version 7 provides the flexibility to select quality options. Configure via “Media Settings” under “Quality” option: • Motion: CIF resolution only • Sharpness: enable 4CIF • Endpoints that support 4CIF video resolution and endpoints that do not support 4CIF can participate in the same conference, using their optimum capabilities • Standard feature on the MGC video+8 resource module

Video Quality Highest Common Enhancements • Improved MCU connectivity - reduces Secondary connection, due to EP parameters inconsistency • Improved Move between conferences – in general and Entry Queue access conferences in particular (as EQ uses the move mechanism) • Additional parameter support for H.264, H.263 annexes (F, N, T, I*), Pro-Motion, VGA/SVGA/XGA resolutions

Content QualityH.239 • Signaling for H.320 and H.323 will be according to ITU-T H.239 implementation guide • Resolutions: • 4CIF - 704 x 576 • XGA - 1024 x 768 • SVGA – 600 x 800 • The Speaker may switch from People CIF to Content in 4CIF or SVGA/XGA • MGC Transcoding has been extended to support Polycom People + Content and H.239 People + Content in the same conference • H.239 / P+C are supported in cascade between H.323 conferences • Supports Highest Common

Audio QualitySilenceIT • MGC automatically detects noisy lines or music when put on hold, and mutes those participants • Participant is notified if he/she has been muted • Participant has 4 choices to re-join the conference: • Un-mute and re-join • Adjust the SilenceIT algorithm and re-join the conference un-muted • Disable the feature and re-join un-muted • Re-join muted • IVR/DTMF is used to select options • Conference level setting • Enable SilenceIT feature can be selected only if IVR is enabled • Patent pending

Audio QualityAudio Error Resilience • Due to occasional IP network problems, IP packets may get corrupted or lost, resulting in chopped audio. • The MCU has the capability to replace the lost/corrupt audio packets, smoothing out the audio when such conditions occurs. • It is accomplished by storing 40ms of the most recently decoded audio and using this data to generate synthesized audio to replace the packets • It improves the overall quality of VoIP conferencing
