What Problem Are We Solving? • Before divining into a technical solution,it would be well to characterize the business problem(s) that your solution elements purports to solve. • What is the nature of thebusiness? • What are the key information flows of the business? • What are the major long-term and short-term strategic directions of the organization? • What are the key business priorities in terms of growing the customer base, addressing competitive threats, expanding the scope of the business enterprise?.
What is the business value of the proposed technical solution? • It would be well to give some of the previous issues some thought, and then address why (in a quantitative sense) your solution of choice is optimum in terms of: • prioritized business issues of the organization, and resources that can be allocated - including human resources, dollars, and time. • Given that you have a good understanding of the business priorities of the organization, it would be well to identity (at least two) alternative solution sets and then develop a few cogent scenarios justifying why the solution set that you have chosen is optimum in some sense.
