  2. Everyday Problems • Russia has strict laws against LGTB rights • Supporters have no protection from the law • “Russia's liberal, democratic...parties...all oppose gay human rights." (Peter Tatchell) • people would get tricked if they were suspected to be gay and would get beaten by "vigilantes" • lots of harassment • Effects citizens and visitors

The Olympics • Olympics cause Russia to have more concern with homosexuality laws • Russia does not want contact and influence from the west • “Propaganda of non traditional sexual relations"  can be enforced widely, or not at all.” (President Vladimir Putin) • May have compromise for the Olympics

Elton's Struggle • Elton John's homosexuality goes against Russia's anti-gay law  • Christians asked president Vladimir Putin to ban Elton John from performing in Moscow, due to him being openly gay. • "fans will face 'divine retribution' if they attend the openly gay singers concerts“ • If open homosexuality is promoted Elton John will be held in Russian custody for 15 days and will be fined $150 • Still performed but with caution
