CLEAR FOCUS AND HIGH EXPECTATIONS • By June 2011, the economically disadvantaged and special education sub-groups in grades 3/4/5, based on aggregated scores, will make safe harbor or meet and exceed Adequate Yearly Progress benchmarks in the areas of Language Arts Literacy • By June 2011, increase the number of students in grades 3/4/5 scoring in the proficient range above comparable DFG Districts in Language Arts Literacy • School – Wide Theme: “Wild about Teaching and Learning: Dunfee Dragons R.O.A.R.” is our driving force for excellence in all we do • Maximizing instructional time by continuously reinforcing and rewarding Dunfee Dragon Attributes (Respect, Optimism, Awesome Achievers, Responsibility) • Continuously reviewing Cultural Compass with staff and entire Dunfee School community

PERSONALIZED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT KIDS FIRST! • Utilizes formative and summative assessments to identify strengths and weaknesses and plans accordingly • Quarterlies, Learnia, DR2 Tango • Accelerated Reader • Flexible grouping • Differentiates Instruction • Literacy Centers • Collegial discussions take place at grade level as well as vertical level teams • Basic skills, special education, and classroom teachers collaborate and plan lessons to meet student needs • Weekly Parent communication through test folders, as well as daily communication through agenda books • Before school academic clubs and after school enrichment clubs

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH • Administered staff surveys to plan professional development opportunities for current school year • School Wide Committee meets to plan and implement staff’s ideas for before and after school opportunities for Professional Learning Communities • School-wide workshops offered before, during, and after school • Professional Learning Communities meet during prep periods to collaborate and analyze student data • Teachers as Readers • Classroom Action Research • Support Technology Initiatives • Availability of Teacher Resources in Conference Room • Attend District Workshops

PARTNERSHIPS • School - Wide Theme is shared with entire Dunfee School Family at School-Wide meetings, Back To School Night, PTA meetings, District Website, Newsletters, and with students on a daily basis • Partnerships are developed with our Police Department, Municipal Alliance, Ocean County Shade Tree Commission, VFW, Food Pantry, Ocean County Library, Community Volunteers, Retirement Communities, as well as Township Officials • Home/School connection is fostered through the development of teacher web pages, conferences, weekly test folders, and agenda books • Parent Classroom Helpers

DYNAMIC • Stay abreast of current topics and trends in education • Share current articles and websites with staff relating to our school wide goals • Collaborate with staff through PD360 • Reflect on teaching practices and make adjustments accordingly • Develop unit and lesson plans in the area of Language Arts Literacy • Principal has open door policy • Professional learning communities • Golden R.O.A.R. Tickets to recognize staff members

THE WHY? • Continuously re-evaluating our goals and ensuring we are achieving our goals • Collaboration in various settings: professional learning communities, vertical communities, school wide meetings, and PD360 • Creating a culture where suggestions and comments are always embraced • Asking ourselves are we meeting the academic, emotional, and social needs of our students and what can we do to ensure they are successful, productive citizens • Never settling for “Status Quo”

LMDS Staff is Awesome!! • Our staff always sees the glass ½ full • Our staff is reflected in the following scenario: A shoe factory sends two marketing scouts to a region of Africa to study the prospects of expanding business. One sends back a telegram saying: Situation hopeless; stop; no one wears shoes. the other writes triumphantly: Glorious business opportunity; stop; they have no shoes • Our staff looks at our students and sees abundance and possibility • Our staff continually embraces endless possibilities and completes a story of accomplishment with each and every student
