Title of Book

1. Title of Book Short summary (it’s like a commercial for the book.) What is the book about? • Is it a true story? (non-fiction) Or is is made-up? (fiction) • Did you like it? (It’s okay if you didn’t. You just want to say WHY you didn’t.) • Who is in it? (A boy, a girl, a dog, a kangaroo?) • What is the problem? (Every story has a problem, or CONFLICT.) • You can add anything else you want, but if you answer these questions, you’ll have a fairly good summary of your book to start off your report.

2. Characters Characters in the book • Main character • Other characters Tell us something about the characters in the story. Is the main character brave? Sad? Happy? 3. Setting WHERE the story happens. • Place: City? Village? Forest? • Time: Past? Present? Future? Tell us WHERE and WHEN the story happens. Do the characters visit a park? Do they go back in time, like in the Magic Treehouse books? Do they live in the desert? Near the water? WHERE the story happens makes a difference. A character will be different in a story that takes place in the desert than one who sails the seven seas.

4. The Plot The Plot is WHAT HAPPENS. On this page … The BEGINNING You would tell what happened in the BEGINNING of the story. (The beginning introduces the characters and the problem.) The MIDDLE Then tell about what happened in the MIDDLE of the story. (The middle challenges the characters with their problem.) The END Then tell what happened at the END of the story. (The end of the story tells how the characters take care of their problem.)
