  1. ANL-West Site Standards/Program Updates Presented By: Deborah A. Tate

  2. ANL-W Site Standards Program • Implemented through multiple document tier levels. • Implementation limited to engineering design control. • ‘Model’ specifications are recognized as being needed.

  3. High Level Implementation • ANL-W Quality Assurance Program Plan(QAPP – tier 1 document) based on: • ASME NQA-1 2000 • 10CFR Part 830 • DOE Order 414.1A

  4. Mid-Level Implementation • Argonne West Procedures (AWP’s) implement QAPP requirements(Tier 2 documents) • AWP 2.9 Engineering Procedure • AWP 4.2 Quality Assurance Grading • AWP 4.9 Software Quality Assurance • etc….

  5. ANL-W Document Tier System NQA-1 2000 10 CFR Tier 1 ANL-W QAPP AWP 2.9 Engineering Procedure AWP 4.2 QA Grading AWP 4.9 Software QA Tier 2 Appendices A – Design Criteria J – Tech Specifications Tier 3 Q - Qualifications

  6. Low Level Implementation • AWP 2.9 • Prescribes a disciplined approach to engineering design control. • Provides a multitude of appendices or ‘guides’ for writing various engineering documents: • Design Criteria • Technical Specifications • Qualification Plans • Etc.

  7. AWP 2.9 & National Standards • National standards are usually referenced (i.e., IEEE, ASME, etc.). • Each engineer maintains his/her own collection. • Library will obtain copies of standards upon request, but does not maintain current collections.

  8. Model Specifications & Estimating • No central collection of model specifications exists. • Concrete • Telecommunications • Etc. • Different cost estimating tools are used. • Subject matter experts identify which specifications should be used.

  9. Implementing Standards at ANL-W • Recognize the need to institutionalize a ‘process’ or means for identifying/using standards. • Option 1 - Integrate into AWP 2.9. • Provide additional appendices • Option 2 – Create a new AWP with associated appendices. • Readily accessible in an online format.
