What’s the Problem? • Natural disasters happen all over the world, regardless of location • Rising number of natural disasters • Millions of people injured or killed
How is it Affecting the World? • Loss of life plus injury of millions • Buildings and natural habitats destroyed • Setback in development • Hurts economy
What is Being Done? • Organizations… • Provide relief aid • Give counseling for victims • Raise awareness • Study and develop new technology
The 2008 Sichuan Earthquake • In center of North-South earthquake belt • Sichuan resides on 2 major crustal plates • Frequent earthquakes occur in Sichuan • In 2008, immense earthquake struck • > 69,000 people died • 7,000 schoolrooms destroyed
Our Specific Topic “Quality and up-to-date earthquake preparation education for elementary to middle school kids in rural Sichuan public schools.”
Why Did We Choose This? • Prevent death & serious injury of innocent kids • Helps students be prepared • Not many organizations already addressing this issue
