What Is The Issue • Walton Parish is the only area in MK without Fast Broadband Roll-out plans. • The rest of MK will be Fibre enabled by Spring 2011. • There are no viable alternatives for Walton Parish • All 4,500 homes and over 11,000 residents in the parish will be affected by this.
Why Is This An Issue? • Resident’s of WPC suffer from an extremely slow internet connection, making them unable to carry out many of the points listed below: Home • Stream Video – BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Live TV • Download music or movies with ease. • Visit websites with high-graphic contents. • Have multiple users online, families doing multiple things at once. Work • Seamless Video / Audio Conferences and Communication. • The Transfer of Large Files and Documents between Clients and Colleagues – Online Back-Up, Remote Screen Sharing.
Why Is This An Issue? • Many existing residents will leave Walton Parish to fibre enabled areas of MK. • House price depreciation will occur • There is no incentive to move into the area, new buyers and businessmen will locate to different fibre enabled areas of MK.
Why Is This An Issue? • Tower Gate as a small and hi-tech business park will be hampered, significantly lowering land value and investment opportunities. • It will disadvantage students, older Residents, and the less able. • Future services, such as cable TV replacement won’t be possible – but only in this area! • MK Citizen campaign is about to make this all extremely public.
How to fix it? • Woburn Sands exchange which serves Walton Parish needs upgrading to fibre optic broadband. • It needs to be done in-line with the timeline set for the rest of MK, to avoid disadvantage in Walton Parish. (Spring 2011) • Costs: TBA – Meeting arranged with David Hopkins, Iain Stewart, BT Openreach and Adam Chapman.
What should WPC do? • WPC needs to get fast fibre optic broadband as per the rest of MK to ALL of it’s residents • Get Woburn Sands exchange upgraded • Through working with BT Openreach, MKC and other Parish Councils affected. • Get upgrade costs from BT Openreach and share funding between affected parishes. • Establish a timeline to match the MK fibre optic broadband roll out as closely as possible.
