User Requirements in A&U and Social Sciences • Network to support content-centric activities and to retrieve information or sources of inspiration • Intensification of Internet technologies • in multi-disciplinary scientific projects, • users in Humanities and Social Sciences working together with researchers from Computer Science or Engineering departments • 3 types of usage came out from EARNEST study: • performing arts (dance, music, theater..) • virtual environment, simulation • access to information repositories Claudio Allocchio

Opera Oberta • http://www.opera-oberta.org • (from 2001): an academic course of Opera with multicast live transmissions from Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona. • Each university organizes its own course to prepare the operas before the transmissions from the theatre. • High definition and a bandwidth of 10 Mbps (audio + video). • Contents encrypted (agreement with Liceu). • More than 50 participating universities, more than 5,000 attendants for each transmission.
