Eyes: (experiment with cow) The Tapetum is visible in the dog’s eyes In our experiment, we decided to use a cow’s eye to dissect since we can not dissect a human eye. http://images.absoluteastronomy.com/images/encyclopediaimages/m/ma/man_and_dog.jpg During the experiment, we looked for -Sclera which is the white part if the eye -Cornea which is the outer layer of the eye which is the covering over the front of the eye -Pupil which is the dark circle in the iris -Lens a clear lump that looks like a marble -Tapetum a shiny, blue-green colors that reflects light -Optic nerves separate fibers -Myelin that surrounds each fiber of the nerve The interesting thing in the cows eye is that it has a tapetum which humans do not. What it does is reflect visible light so that they can improve their vision in low light. This is common in animals for example dogs and cats. http://videos.howstuffworks.com/hsw/11962-light-how-our-eyes-work-video.htm
Similarities: Both the eye and the camera use the converging lens. This is a type of lens that is usually uses in magnifying glasses. In human eyes, we let in electrical signals from the cornea. Then the muscle in the colored iris controls the amount of light you let in by expanding when there is little light and contracting when there is too much light. http://www.astro.virginia.edu/class/oconnell/astr130/im/human-eyecrossec.jpg This is the same with he camera because we have apertures which adjusts how much light enters though the lens Another similarity is that both the eye and the camera captures the image upside down, then adjusts the images in the brain so that the image will make sense to us. http://media.wiley.com/assets/1154/81/0-4700-3743-1_020104.jpg This is done when the light colors go through the optic nerve into the brain but before that, the retina needs to fix the image up.
