  1. Crop Area Estimation for Bundi Tahsil of Rajasthan using Remote Sensing and GIS Technique Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya Chitrakoot Satna M.P. Presented By Sandeep Kumar Soni Research Scholar

  2. Introduction • Crop area estimation is essential for proper management, efficient resource allocation for sustainable agricultural development, conservation & storage and export, import statistics etc.

  3. Land use/Land cover assessment is one of the most important parameter to have meaningful plan for land resource management. Land use/ land cover information in the form of map and statistical data is very useful for spatial planning, management and utilization of land of agriculture, pasture, urban, environmental studies, forestry and economic production etc.

  4. Why Remote Sensing & GIS • Remote Sensing and GIS technology is beneficial in the crop area estimation and collection of land use/land cover information with reliable accuracy and up-to-date information in shortest possible time.

  5. Study Area • The study area is Bundi tahsil of Bundi district of Rajasthan which is bounded by 74024’01.54”-75057’17.26”E longitude and 25033’50.10”-24059’37.70”N latitude. • Climate is moderate. Soil type is loam soil. Rabi crop makes a significant contribution to the total agricultural production. Total population is 352174.

  6. Objective • To prepare base map. • Land use/Land cover map for the period of 2005-06. • GIS database. • Crop area estimation for three seasons

  7. Data set used • IRS-P6 LISS-III (Resourcesat-1) Satellite data of three seasons viz; Kharif, Rabi & Zaid. • Topographical map on 1:250000 scale. • Remote Sensing & GIS Software.

  8. Methodology • Lu/Lc map is prepared from the digitally enhance and georeferenced satellite imagery IRS-P6-LISS-III (Oct 2005,Jan2006 and April 2006) using visual classification and digital classification techniques.

  9. Result • Bundi tahsil comprises 1903.32 sq.km. The whole area was categorized into 5 classes and then categorized into subclasses. Built-up land, agriculture, forest, watershed and water bodies are main classes.

  17. Conclusion • Total area of Bundi tahsil of Rajasthan is 1903.32 sq.km. 688.92 sq.km area is cropped as Kharif crop, 282.28 sq.km. is cropped as Rabi crop, 2.31 sq.km. land is cropped as Zaid crop, 303.52 sq.km. land is cropped as double crop & 2.99 sq. km. land is cropped as triple crop and 0.49 sq.km. land is cropped as Rabi crop in water bodies. In all 98.87 sq.km. area is fallow land.
