Its the law! All residential services must register with HIQA. They must meet the standard to register.
HIQA have inspectors who check all the support services. If they hear about a big problem in a service they may do a special “triggered” inspection.
You are not being inspected ! • HIQA want to know about your support service - • What’s good • and not so good. • When they visit it’s your time to have your say. Speak up! Tell them!
Your support is... Focused on You • ...You should get the right support • ...You should be treated with respect • ...Get support, choice and control in decisions about your life • ...You should get support to manage money.
Respect & Privacy • Did you know personal information is kept about you on file? • Do you know who reads your personal files? • Are you shown where your personal information is kept safe? • HIQA says you should be told
Relationships • Do you get support to have friendships and relationships? • Do you feel family and friends are welcome in your home? • Do you have support to have a boyfriend or girlfriend... if you want? • HIQA says you should have.
A Personal Plan HIQA says you should have a personal plan • This plan should be made by you with your important peopleWho are your important people? • A personal plan says what support you needWhat do you get support to do? • A meeting about your plan should happen once a yearat least.... Who decides who should go to that meeting?
HomeHIQA says you should have choice and privacy in your home • Did you choose where you now live? • Did you choose who you live with? • Do people remove your belongings without asking? • Do people respect your private life? • Are you told about changes in services?
SafetyHIQA says you should feel safe in your home • Do you have access to an independent advocate such as... The Independent Advocacy Service • Are you informed about your rights. Where would you go to complain? • Are you involved in important decisions about your life? Who you see? Where you go? Where you live? Who you live with? Where you work?
Safe Services are also about Money... • Do you have support to understand your money? • Do you have help to manage money? • Do you know what records are kept? • Has how your money is spent been explained to you?
Health HIQA says your service should try to support you to be well. • Do you get support to be healthy? • Do you look after your medication if you want? • Do you know what side effects your medication might cause? • Did you choose your own GP?
HIQA says Work & Training is important • Do you have a work plan or training plan? • Do you have support to work or do courses you choose? • Do you get support to enjoy different things each day?
HIQA says...Good Support (Paid & Voluntary)is very important to people... • What training do staff do and why? • How would you give feedback to staff? • If staff did something you didn’t like who would you speak to?
HIQA says Management is important • Managers should run the service well, taking care of budgets, making and carrying out good plans • They should provide good care and support to people • They should follow the laws & government policy
