Setting’s Effect on MoodHaikus • Haiku: a form of Japanese poetry with 17 syllables in three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables, often describing nature or a season • Today you will write a haiku about the setting and mood/atmosphere of “The Cask of Amontillado.” Look back at the story and copy important descriptive words. • Choose two elements of the setting you want to describe in your first two lines. Choose two of the elements that make the setting perfect for this story. • Your final line should describe the mood/atmosphere of the story that is established by the setting • Arrange your words in Haiku form: the first line is 5-syllables; the second line is 7-syllables; the third line is 5-syllables. EXAMPLE: “The Most Dangerous Game” Deserted island, Wild jungle with no escape, Danger all around.
