  3. Calculations V = K x N x T • V = effective volume in m3 • K = Rate of sludge accumulation (m3/pers/year) k=0.04 in wets pits and 0.06 in dry pits • N = Number of people using pit • T = Design life (years)

  4. Calculations D = V /As + Fb • D = Depth of Pit • V = Effective volume in m3 • As = Cross sectional area of pit • Fb = Free board (0.5 m)
