Create and manage a SharePoint blog Closed captions Finally, click Create. You create a blog just as you would any site, but in this case you’ll use the blog site template. So let’s do it. Navigate to the site, such as a team site, where you want to create the blog. On the Settings menu, select Site Contents. At the bottom of the page, click New Subsite. Now, type the name for your blog and an optional description if you like. Type the end of the URL you want to use to access the blog. And here is Eduard’s new blog, inheriting the top link navigation from the parent site Home page. Now you need to set user permissions. You can choose to inherit permissions from the parent site, so that those same people who have access the main site also have access to your blog. Or you can use unique permissions to choose the people that you want to give access to your blog subsite. If you choose unique permissions, then you’ll need to set up permissions after creating the blog. Next, on the Collaboration tab, select the Blog template. You can also choose for the blog to have its own top link bar or inherit it from the parent site. Create and manage a SharePoint blog Closed captions When I click Stop Inheriting permissions, I’ll start off the process to set new permissions for the blog site only. So the next thing to do is delete the permission groups we don't want that were brought down to the blog subsite. So now only a select group of people, who belong to just three permissions groups, that have access to the blog. Using groups makes it a lot easier to add and remove users because each group permission level doesn't change. Go to Site Settings for the blog and from right here, under Users and Permissions, we’ll go to Site Permissions. So, unless unique permissions for the blog were selected when the blog was first created, Configuring permissions for a blog is similar to setting permissions for other types of sites. The default permissions for a blog are inherited from its parent site. we’ll need to break the default inheritance of permissions from the parent site of the blog. and click the Remove User Permissions command on the ribbon. And remove all but these users from the Home Owners group… Keep in mind if permissions inheritance from the parent site was broken when the blog was created, you’ll see the Start Inheriting Permissions command instead. Remember, we deleted groups we don't want for this site, but the parent permissions are still in place until we change them and make them unique. And add a couple of users to the Home Visitors group… To do this, go back to the blog Site Settings page and click Site Permissions. Now, we have broken permissions inheritance from the blog's parent site, Select the checkbox next to the groups you want to delete Let's add a couple of users to the Home Members group….. Now, just the groups we want to configure permissions for are left for this site. but each group still has the original users associated with them from the parent site. The next step is to choose the users for each group. Now in this case, Eduard is the blog administrator so he should be the only one that can approve comments as they come in. Assuming you have set user permissions for your blog, It makes sense, for example, that you might want only certain users to be able to publish posts. Or you might want to restrict the creation of post categories to the blog administrator. Here we are on the blog home page. Click Settings, and then click Site Contents. Now, the first thing we need to do is allow for unique permissions You do this by clicking Grant Permissions, and then clicking Show Options on the Share dialog. it’s a really good idea to set specific permissions on individual lists and libraries that are part of the blog. So here on the Settings page, we’ll click Permissions for this list, and then click the Stop Inheriting Permissions from the parent site command on the ribbon. Now Post can have unique permissions from the rest of the site. You can assign a specific group the permissions necessary to approve Posts, for example. by breaking the default permissions inheritance from the blog’s parent site. Or you can give one or more individuals these permissions. Boxed – which creates an outline around each individual post. Basic – which is the default post layout. And Inline – where the font size for the blog post title and author’s name are equal in size to the date.
