How did the Egyptian calendar work? • The Egyptian calendar was divided into three seasons based on the coming and going of the Nile river.
Akhet Time of Flooding • Akhet was the time of year when the Nile flooded Akhet literally means inundation. This occurred normally between July and December. Also during this time irrigation canals redirected water from the Nile to the more dry areas
Proyet time of recession. • Proyet was the time when the Nile receded, because of the cooler weather. At this time the farmers saw a perfect time to sow their crops. Proyet occurred normally from December to March.
Shumo summertime • Shumo was summertime for the Egyptians lasting from March to July. Also it was the a dry time when crops where harvested
