Accomplishments in FY07: • Submitted FGCS FY07 Workplan to FGDC • Convened FGCS is Silver Spring Feb 07 • Reestablished Four Workgroups • Prepared Draft Workgroup Charters and Action Plans • Presented FGCS Report at February FGDC Meeting • Developed Training Materials for USACE to utilize a common daturm (NAVD88) on all 12,000 miles of levees
Discussion of Work Group Charters and Action Plans Instruments: Scope of Work • Seek out sponsors for instrumentation loans • Develop Instrumentation testing procedures • Evaluate Instrumentation using standardized testing procedures • Deliver findings in the form of a report to the FGCS for review • Work with the Methodologies work group in development of guidelines.
Discussion of Work Group Charters and Action Plans (cont.) Fixed Reference Stations: Activities • Federal, state, and local governmental agencies will be monitored to determine current and planned fixed GNSS station activities. • Procedures will be developed to assure all fixed sites operated by member agencies are tied to NSRS and provide NSRS positions. • Standards and specifications will be developed for fixed sites. • Common formats for data storage, distribution, and archiving will be developed and implemented through the National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse. • Studies will be undertaken to determine how to optimize a single CORS system including the National Differential Global Positioning Service (NDGPS) to meet a maximum number of Federal GNSS post-processing and real-time requirements.

Vertical Reference System: Activities • Collect information from users about their vertical reference system needs. • Consider and document the impact on users from changes in the vertical reference system. • Review existing vertical reference systems, including datum definition, data types, and estimates of precision and accuracy. • Develop improvements to strategies to incorporate modern technology information such as GPS into vertical reference systems. • Recommend the appropriate course of action for NGS and other Federal agencies to take with regard to vertical reference frames. • Document and report the findings of the Work Group to the Chairperson and Secretariat, FGCS, for distribution.
