What is the Cera Award? • There is a lot of innovation potential in the social profit sector • Engineers can contribute more to the sector if they understand more clearly the needs and challenges of the people and organisations their engineering projects serve. IN PRACTICE THIS MEANS… Yearly prizes for research and development projects in the social profit sector: awards for students, organisations and one “senior” researcher in the field. What did we learn from the Cera Award
Engineers should focus on end users Directly for their benefit or quality of living, e.g. • Accessibility (buildings, websites, services, vehicles,…) • Activities of daily living (eating, drinking, physical hygiene, …) • Communication (oral, by telephone, internet…) • Entertainment/leisure time • Learning (reading, studying, maths,…) • Living • Mobility (moving from place A to B) • Seeing and/or hearing • Working
Engineers should focus also on social profit organisations • Adaptations of the workplace • Human resources and training (physical and mental well-being of staff) • Client administration • General management • Architecture and design of buildings • Communication & cooperation • Team building & leisure To strenghtenand optimise their functioning, e.g. through
“Community Service Engineering” Is a postgraduate level educational course • For Engineers (all disciplines) • Focussing on engineering tasks in the social profit sector. It is organised: • On an international scale • Using blended (and remote) learning techniques • With a balanced programme of theoretical and hands-on courses. It is organised by: • KU Leuven (2 Engineering faculties) and Thomas More • from Sept. 2014 onwards • And can be combined with your actual job
