Adjusting to New Routines • Adjusting to new routines, new people and a new environment may be overwhelming and stressful. • Tired/Sleepiness – Your child may be tired after a day of kindergarten and may require more sleep than usual. You may need to adjust bed times to accommodate their needs. • Give your child opportunities to tell about his or her day at school.
Drop off - Pick up • After drop off (bus or by parent) students will walk to the back of the school and line up at # 8 until the first bell rings at 8:25 AM. Please make sure your child arrives no earlier than 8:20 AM. • If your child is a bus rider PLEASE send them on the bus the first day of school. • At the end of the day I walk the children to the bus or to meet parents/adults. Please wait for your child by the East entrance. • Parents are not to enter the building to drop off or pick up their child.
Notes/ Sick • Please call the office if your child will be absent. 425-837-7232 attendance line • If your child is going home differently, please write a note, or e-mail me in the morning. If I don’t have a note, I will send your child home the normal way.
Curriculum • Students will participate in reading, writing, and math daily. We will also have Science, Social Studies, Health, Art, Music, PE, Library and Computers. • Activities and instruction may be in whole groups, small groups, partners and one-on-one.

Snack • Please make sure to send your child with a healthy snack each day. They may use the water fountain for a drink or have a water bottle/juice box. • Healthy snacks are appreciated – no peanuts, nuts, candy or cookies please. (fruit, cheese, pretzels or crackers are good ideas.) • Snack time is 10-15 minutes!
Lunch • All students have lunch numbers • Lunch is $3.50 - checks to Cougar Ridge • Please write the lunch number on the check • Lunch is 20 minutes • Milk is available for 50 cents • The lunch menu is on-line • There are 4 choices 1 and 2 vary 3 is always yogurt and 4 is baked potato Salad bar is always available
Sharing • Each week your child will have a designated sharing day where they are to bring in something to share with the class. (pictures, drawings, books, or something found in nature are great sharing ideas). • Sharing should be brought in a paper bag with 3 written clues. The clues will be based on our phonics curriculum. More details will be given later.
Homework • Read with your child at least 20 minutes every day. • Bring sharing on your day. • Math Homework
Take Home Reading • Sometime in October, as I get to know the children, we will be starting a take-home reading program where your child reads a book with you at his/her level. After your child has read the book to you, they bring it back to school to get a new book. They may get a new book everyday.
Birthdays • We will celebrate birthdays monthly in the lunch room.
Student of the Week • Each week we will have a student of the week. Every child will have a turn to complete an “All About Me” poster which will be displayed on the bulletin board. We will make a class book for your child to take home. • Your child will also provide the weekly items for our estimation jar.
Estimation Jar • Each week the student of the week will bring in items for our estimation jar. The class looks forward to this math lesson where they learn great estimation strategies.

Gingerbread Man I need a parent volunteer to bake gingerbread cookies for our “Gingerbread Hunt” tomorrow!
