Creation Story of their city • The Mexica/Aztec were said to be guided by their god Huitzilopochtli, meaning "Left-handed Hummingbird“ , when they arrived at an island in the lake, they saw an eagle which was perched on a nopal cactus full of its fruits . • The legend says that when saw this they were suppose to build their new city there.
Human sacrifice • When the Aztecs sacrificed people to Huitzilopochtli the god with war lithe victim would be placed on a sacrificial stone. • Then the priest would cut through the abdomen with an obsidian or flint blade, he heart would be torn out still beating and held towards the sky in honor to the Sun-God.
