The Commission in Spain • Wasestablished in 1958. • Itsprograms are sponsoredbythe U.S. and Spanishgovernments, variousSpanish regional governments, and theprivate sector. • Itisone of 53 in theworld, thesecondlargest in Europe, and thefifth in total number of grants. • Ithandles Fulbright grantprogramsforboth U.S. citizenscomingtoSpain and Spanishcitizensgoingtothe U.S. • Itprovidesinformationaboutstudy in the U.S. throughtheAcademicAdvising Office, part of theEducation USA network. • Ithousesthesecretariat of theAssociaton of American Programs in Spain.

The Commission in Spain • During AY 2015-2016, theCommissionreceives 97 U.S. grantees: • 2 Junior Postdoctoral Researchers, placed in Madrid and Valencia • 24 PredoctoralResearchers, distributedbetween Madrid (9); Barcelona (7); Sevilla (2); Córdoba, Granada, La Coruña, Las Palmas, Mallorca and Valencia (1 each) • 4 Masters’ candidates at the IE Business School, Madrid • 51 TeachingAssistants in Madrid • 16 Senior Lecturers / Researchers / Specialists, with short term grants. (Notparticipating in thisorientation) • There are 5 TeachingAssistants in Andorra
The Commission in Spain • Determines thenumber of grants and type of programsofferedeachyear. • Coordinatesthe final selection of granteesthroughindependentcommittees. • Givesguidelinestogranteesregardingthe visa process and other pre-departureissues. • Prepares pre-departureinformationmaterials and grantdocuments. • Informsgranteesaboutallgrant-relatedaspects. • Handlesgrantpayments (with a fewexceptions). • Keeps in closetouchwithgranteesthroughouttheirstay in Spain, supportingthem in anythingtheymayneed. • Organizesmeetingswithgrantees, mainlyOrientation and Mid-Year. • Maintainscontactwithprogram sponsors.
