CNES Agency Report on Grids Anne Jean-Antoine PiccoloPaul Kopp
GAIA • ESA mission • Objectives: “To create the largest and most precise three dimensional chart of our Galaxy by providing unprecedented positional and radial velocity measurements for about one billion stars in our Galaxy and throughout the Local Group.” (from ESA website) • Launch Date: dec-2011 • Mission End: 2020 • CNES is a member of the GAIA consortium in charge of the preliminary studies for the GAIA processing centre • Studies have shown that a huge grid will be needed for GAIA • CNES has joined the European EGEE-II (Enabling Grids for E-sciencE) project which is preparing the European grid infrastructure for science • The GAIA images simulation software is being tested over a grid Anne Jean-Antoine Piccolo, Paul Kopp WGISS22 Annapolis
gLite • Is the EGEE-II middleware • Has bean installed at CNES as the middleware of a local test grid comprising 6 nodes (PCs running jobs and serving data) • Version 3.0 was installed because of problems with version 1.5 • Installation remains complex • Initial grid topology had to be modified • Need to separate data processors and data servers • Need to separate services using the same Mysql database • Need to install some couples of services on the same machine in some cases • … Anne Jean-Antoine Piccolo, Paul Kopp WGISS22 Annapolis
Grid Security • CNES security requirements must apply to grids • CNES grid security requirements to be established • Compliance assessed for middlewares like GT4 and gLite • gLite security procedures are being analyzed Anne Jean-Antoine Piccolo, Paul Kopp WGISS22 Annapolis
Wide Area Grid • See presentation later in the session Anne Jean-Antoine Piccolo, Paul Kopp WGISS22 Annapolis
