Educational benefits to project (objectives) • Children will: • Learn about the life cycle of a plant • Learn about responsibility • Improve their writing • Be creative through illustrations • Be able to connect classroom projects to the real world
Materials needed • Large bag of planting soil • Package of green bean seeds • Styrofoam cups • Water • Paper for pages in books • Writing pencils • Crayons • Watering can
About the book • children are given 30 minutes to complete their page in the book after every lesson • Incorporate sight words with fill in the blanks • Draw picture representing the plant in the stage it’s in • students will share their books with parents and teachers who attend green thumb day • Book will serve as an evaluation if each student understanding the stages of growth and development that the pants go through.
Green thumb day • Last Friday afternoon • All parents/ guardians are invited • Advocate the importance of taking care of the enviroment • Showcase their books and plants
Getting the parents involved • Improve family-school connections • Motivate children • Contact them through: • Two weeks in advanced- flyer • One week prior- detailed letter • Two days before- reminder • Notices will be in English and Spanish
