  1. Seniors Class of 2011 End-of-High-School Presentation Everything You Want to Know and Then Some

Why are we here today? • to begin the discussion about your final days of school for the class of 2011 • to discuss important dates, deadlines and obligations that you must meet to take part in the ceremony for the Class of 2011. • to discuss logistics of graduation and the days leading up to it. • to explain expectations for graduation and why we will all gather for the ceremony.

  3. What happens between now and Graduation? • Auditions for Senior Breakfast performers and for Graduation performers and speakers Graduation: Two singers and two speakers Auditions week of May 16 (during lunch) Sign up for an audition time in the ASB Room this week and next week.

  4. What happens between now and Graduation? • Senior Survey Available at end of May Will be announced via an Ed-Connect phone call/e-mail Survey through Naviance Must be completed in order to check-out

  5. What happens between now and Graduation? • Senior Recognition Ceremony Thursday June 2 • Recognizing students who have won awards/scholarships • Senior Yearbook Distribution – end of the first week of June • Senior Finals • June 2, 3 and 6

  6. Senior Activities Senior Checkout— Monday June 6th • Check out begins at the beginning of period 5 for those that are off roll. • Check out continues from 2:35 – 3:30. Don’t come during class • Clear Library fines, other fines, attendance • Most of this should be done before checkout. Begin taking care of fines and attendance now!

  7. Senior Activities • Tentative Senior Trip: Tuesday June 7 • This is a school day • Students are released upon return to campus at approximately 12:30 pm • Permission slips are required. ASB will handle distribution and collection

  8. Senior Activities • Wednesday June 8 Senior Breakfast • Performance tryouts— Week of May 16 • MCHS Seniors only as performers. • About 2 ½ hours and then cap and gown distribution • Students released as soon as they collect cap and gown.

Senior Activities • Graduation Practice — Thursday June 9, 8:30am • Mandatory —No practice, no ceremony • Keys to getting out early…be on time, walk in straight lines, stand up/sit down on cue, listen well. • It will be hot no matter what the forecast states. Bring a hat, water, and sun screen.

  10. How do I make sure I graduate? • 230 credits in the appropriate categories must be complete. • CAHSEE complete • Computer Proficiency • Financial and Attendance Obligations • Obtain Cap and Gown • Attend practice • Avoid last minute discipline problems

Financial Obligations • Get this taken care of first! • Act now before the CASH only date! • Possible fines/fees you may owe • Book fines • Uniforms (never turned it in/paid for it) • Outstanding fundraiser debt (i.e. never turned in your candy bar sales money) • Athletics fees (i.e. never paid the last installment for camp)

  12. Caps and Gowns • Most have ordered/purchased already • If you still need one, contact Mark Fitzner 858-486-2020 or fitznem@jostens.com • They will also be sold on the distribution date (June 8) for cash only. • Cap/Gown/Medal/tassel/diploma cover is included in the package.

  13. Grad Nite • Thursday June 9 • Go to mchs-gradnite.com • All night event the night of graduation • Advanced tickets are recommended. Tickets will be sold at the door for $120 cash if any are available. • You are required to stay for the entire event.

  14. Graduation Ceremony Tickets • Tickets are required to enter the event. • Each student will receive 14 tickets that will come in the Cap and Gown pack you pick up on June 8th. • If you need more than 14, you may sign up with Ms. Kelley starting May 16. They will be given out on a first come-first served basis until they run out. If you don’t use all 14 you may give them to a friend to use.

The Ceremony Parking Lot Math Problem: • Seniors: 585 • actually graduating: 582 • tickets per graduate: 14 • Average number of ticketholders per vehicle arriving at graduation: 3.9 • (582 x 14)/3.9 = 2089 vehicles • Capacity of parking lot: 800 • Vehicles that won’t fit on graduation day: 1289 • [(582 x 14)/3.9] – 800 = Get here early

  17. The Ceremony • Seniors Check-in at 4:30. Staging behind the scoreboard. • Processional starts at 5:45 on the dot. • Ceremony starts about 6pm and finishes about 7:15 pm. • People needing assistance up the ramps may wait at the staging area near the bottom of the home ramp. Go over this with your family members.

The Ceremony Don’ts • Don’t show up late • Don’t bring cell phones, cameras, i-pods, bouquets, leis, air horns, beach balls, etc. (Just you and the cap and gown) • Don’t wear jeans, t-shirt, tennis shoes, flip flops. • Don’t steal someone else’s moment. It’s the only one any of us will ever have.

  19. The Ceremony Do’s • 1. Arrive early, parking is limited. • 2. Dress is semi-formal. • 3. Pre-arrange for a meeting place on the field after the ceremony. • 4. Go to the bathroom before checking in. • 5. It will be hot so drink plenty of water. • 6. Good luck with steps 4 and 5. • 7. Start with the tassel on the RIGHT.

Diplomas • At the ceremony you only get the diploma cover…not the diploma. • YOU must pick it up (not your parent) • You may pick up your diploma from the Registrar’s Office* in the Sun Center Monday through Thursday 9-12 noon. * or personally from Mr. Garrett if you make a bad choice during the ceremony.
