Boy tries to get the woman of his dreams no matter what. • Man tries to get to his son after a world disaster. • Man stands up to evil machines who rule the earth. STARTER Identify the films from the one sentence outlines.
What films did you get? • What do you notice about these plot points? • How do they work in terms of narrative? STARTER
Look at the object What could it be? How could it be the centre of a narrative? What genres could you use?

Using the Post-It Notes try and come up with an outline for a short film, of your given genre, featuring this object in some way. • Choose one of the narrative theories to use to under pin your story idea. • Each point in the narrative should have a Post-It Note. GENERATING STORIES Extension: Can you make your story fit into another narrative theory effectively? (You may need to make slight changes to do this)
Present Your Ideas Let’s share what we have managed to come up with.
How is the group using the object? • Is it an integral part of the narrative? How? • How have they used the narrative theories to under pin the story? • Does the narrative work? Why/why not? • What other ways could the story work? Questions to consider…
Reboot – tell an old story in a new way. • Restyle – take a story and tell it in a way that changes the style of it. • Reorder – construct a narrative that uses time or order in a different way or change an existing narrative. • Random Words – pick 3-6 random words (there are websites that do this) and incorporate them into a narrative. • Stimulus – base a narrative on a building, sculpture, painting, poem etc. Other ways of generating ideas… Can you think of any other ways of creatively generating narratives?
Treatment • A brief outline of the narrative including all major events and turning points. • A script • A detailed outline of the narrative including descriptions, dialogue and some limited direction. • A shooting script • A copy of the script but with added technical details such as camera work and detailed direction.
