SUMMARY OF Hydroelectricity • Hydroelectricity is electricity made by moving or flowing water. Hydropower has been around since ancient times. It was used to grind flour and perform other tasks. How it works • The moving water from rivers, lakes, and oceans, pushes a water turbine and is connected to a power generator which is in a power station that is connected to long distance power lines.
Positive When the dam is working it does not produce green house gases. They will not pollute our atmosphere • Electricity can be produced at a constant rate. • Dams are designed to last a long time. • The stack up of energy of water means that energy can be stored until needed.
Negative Since dams are very expensive, it has to run for decades. Older dams cant take the weight of the water in the lake, which can lead to flooding and life loss • Dams are very Expensive to build. • By building a dam the water level will rise and flood the nearby land.
