What, for you, has made the most difference having a Key Support system? • Easy, quick and direct response • Useful having another point of contact instead of the class teacher for matters which may not be directly class/education related • Keeping up to date progress/monitoring of child • Extra support/help & advice for both child and family • I feel my child has excelled and achieved more at school • Key Support TA having more understanding of the needs of child • Key Support TA helping to improve child's behaviour and/or help building confidence in child • Gives teacher break from issues to pursue classroom activities whilst TA deals with other needs of pupil • Better than always feeling you are ‘bothering’ the teacher, so more likely to ask • All the support is excellent, I have no complaints
If you feel that it made no difference to the support you usually get from school, why do you think this was? • No difference • Have not had any concerns or need to contact Key Worker • Support has always been more than adequate • Have good working relationships with class teacher (usual contact through teacher not Key Support TA) • Staff are always on hand when needed • Teacher is extremely ‘hands on’ and I had 100% support • No contact between staff and parents • Key Support TA not having easy access to emails • Not sure of role and what information/support can receive from Key Support TA • Key Support TA not keeping parents updated enough, especially when teacher absent
How could our Key Support system be improved? • More contact between school and home • Provide more information to parents on the Key Support scheme (role and list of what information/support the Key Support TA can provide) • Reminder of Key Support scheme in newsletter/general letters sent out to parents • Coffee mornings where parents can meet their Key Support TA and build relationships with them • Parents to be introduced to their TA at the beginning of every academic year and given contact details and best time(s) to call to speak with them regarding any issues • Regular contact in the home/school book via Key Support TA and not class teacher • Key Support TA to be more involved and attend meetings, annual reviews and IEP's • Home visits • Key Support TA to access emails regularly • SMS number for Key Support TA so they can be contacted out of school hours
