Wind Resource Assessment of Thailand. This project introduced by Department of Energy Development and Promotion; grant by the Energy Conservation and Promotion Fund. The objective of this project is to present wind maps of Thailand. The data were used for processing gathered from 134 wind surface stations, 21 stations from buoys 46 station from ocean ships and satellites and 11 from upper air station. The data were analyzed in two phases 1. Prepare the data in a suitable form for further use. 2. Create the wind map
The assessment indicates that. 1. North - East monsoon wind from November - March give a good wind in the Class 3 category more than 6.4 m/s November - March
2. South - West monsoon wind from May - October also give the good wind in the class 3 category 3. The fair wind area in the class 1.3 to class 2 category more than 4.4 m/s May - October
The Installation of Windmill in Thailand. - Mostly located in central part of Thailand - Used for brine pumping for the salt farm. - Used for water lifting for farm irrigation and house hold consumption. There are three basic types of windmills inactive used - Slow - speed sail rotor type - High - speed wooden rotor type - Multi - blade steel rotor type
Wind Turbine Generation in Thailand There are 3 main organizations are concerned development of wind turbine in Thailand. 1. The Electricity Authority of Thailand (EGAT) Development for demonstration several small scale wind turbines generating ranging from 0.2 to 1.0 KW Installation two of 10 KW wind turbine Excel from USA are utilized for battery charging station. Installation one of 150 KW Nordtank from Denmark hybrid with 10 KW of PV power station which connected to the local distribution grid of Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA).
EGAT’s Location of Promthep Alternative Energy Station, Phuket Island
2. PEA has elaborated the project of Wind Resource Monitoring in Southern Coast of Thailand; for the implementation of large wind turbines installation.
3. Department of Energy Development and Promotion (DEDP) installed 11 wind stations in southern part of Thailand.
The sustainable of wind energy utilization DEDP sets up two wind energy projects with the total financial assistant 354,525,000 Baht from the Energy Conservation Promotion Fund. 1. Development of Wind Energy for Water Pumping Projec, budget cost 21,525,000 Baht. 2. Development of Wind Energy for Electricity Generation Project, budget cost 333,000,000 Baht.
- Construct 3 sets of different type windmills for testing, choose a best one as a prototype - Install 16 sets of windmills for demonstration - Install 150 sets of windmills with the 70% subsidy for promotion.
- 4 sets of 900 kW wind turbine will be installed in the southern part of Thailand
