  2. SOURCE • The starting point of a river.

  3. RIVER • A stream of water that flows across the land and empties into another body of water.

  4. TRIBUTARY • A smaller river that flows into a larger river.

  5. MOUTH • The place where a river empties into a larger body of water.

  6. DELTA • Land made of soil left behind as a river drains into a larger body of water.

  7. LAKE • A body of water completely surrounded by land.

  8. BAY • Part of an ocean or lake that extends deeply into the land.

  9. CANAL • A channel built to carry water for irrigation or transportation.

  10. PLAIN • A large area of nearly flat land.

  11. PLATEAU • A high flat area that rises steeply above the surrounding land.

  12. MOUNTAIN • A high landform with steep sides; higher than a hill.

  13. VALLEY • An area of low land between hills or mountains.

  14. CANYON • A deep, narrow valley with steep sides.

  15. PENINSULA • A body of land nearly surrounded by water.

  16. ISLAND • A body of land completely surrounded by water.
