Parent/Community Communication • Back to School Sunday – Strategy Team apperances at services coordinated through the Oakland Interfaith Network • Inserts in church bulletins • Flyers at church community bulletin boards • Custodians posted flyers at school sites • Flyers posted on 300 in-store displays or prominent store windows • Signage in Board Room • First day slide running on KDOL • Emphasis on First Day in Strategy Team verbal communications • Full page ads in Oakland Post and El Mundo (35,000 copies distributed) • 10 Clear Channel billboards – District logo, “Teachers transform lives”
Parent/Community Communication (2) • Pursuing opportunity to air PSA’s on local radio and television • Pitched Back to School stories to local television and print media • New schools: International High School, Alternative Learning Community, etc. • Peralta’s renovation • New school leaders • Facilities renovations • Textbooks in every classroom • First Day of School Release/ Dr. Statham media availability at school sites
Mandatory Registration • Registration at school sites • Middle and High Schools – August 13-24 • Elementary Schools; handled on a school-by-school basis; often during first week of school • Parents or Guardians are required to accompany students to registration

OUSD Immunization Campaign • 80% of all district clerical staff received training on immunization requirements • 100 clerical staff received training on entering and retrieving training on entering and retrieving immunization in Aeries • 146 clerical staff received training on accessing information from the Bay Area Immunization Registry • 6 back to school immunization clinics in collaboration with the County during the weeks of August 13th and 20th • Back to School immunization clinic held at Madison Middle School in collaboration with the County
OUSD Immunization Campaign (2) • Information on free immunization clinics sent to families in the summer mailing • Flyers for free immunization clinics available at registration • Health Assistant provided by Health Services to the SAO to check immunization records and enter data into Aeries • Printouts of immunizations from Aeries for all secondary school students hand delivered to each school for reference during registration • Instructions to clerical staff given in person regarding printouts • Health Services available by phone for questions during registration
Training for Instructional Leaders • Strategy Team Retreat – July 30 and 31 • Executive Team Retreat – Aug. 1 - 3 • Instructional Leadership Retreat – Aug. 15-17 • Site Staff Development days – Aug 22-24
School Partners • District ambassadors to school sites • First two days of school • Check-ins started 8/09 and continued 8/16, 8/20, 8/21, 8/23, 8/24, 8/27 and 8/28 • Check-ins – senior leadership (Network Officers and H.R., Facilities, Special Education, Tech Services, Food Services and Enrollment
Textbooks • A new Science adoption has been completed • OUSD ordered science textbooks for all K-12 students • We continue to order standards based instructional materials for all students to comply with the Williams settlement criteria • Each student in the Oakland Unified School District has a textbook for all content areas
Enrollment • Total Enrollment - 40,084 • Elementary – 20,484 • Middle – 8714 • High – 10,886 • Counts will be taken 3rd, 5th, 10th day
