  1. How to Unclog a Sewer Pipe

  2. Unclogging a sewer pipe is hard work. You can do it yourself or hire a sewer cleaning service. If you do it yourself, then you may require tools like a drain cleaner, plunger or/and sewer snake. The following steps help unclog a sewer pipe.

  3. Identify the Damage • Check sewage leakage to get to the root of the problem.

  4. Small Clog • If the clog is small, it won’t be difficult to clean it by yourself. • You can use a plunger, to plunge with strong motions up and down rapidly several times in a row. Repeat this cycle 2 or 3 times. • When using drain cleaner, take time and access the damage and give the drain cleaner time to work. • It is advisable to use a drain cleaner several times a year to make sure your system stays free of clogs.

  5. Large Clog • If there is a larger clog you may have to go to the sewer to clean out the pipe, which is usually located outside of a home. • Take your sewer snake and run it into the hole on the pipe. Use a hand sewer snake or an automatic sewer snake. • Depending on the clog, if the sewer snake does not break it up, the pipe may have to be dug up and replaced and if so then you will need the help of a professional.

  6. Recheck • Once you have the pipe cleaned, try and see if it is working well and check the clog so it doesn’t happen again. You can do so by flushing water.
